The exhibition took place at ArtLab, the University of Manitoba, School of Art in 2019. There will be a catalogue in 2020 that includes a text written by Seema Goel.
The work in the exhibition includes: Atomic Bomb, DroneSound, Falling, erase, and two reflective texts.
In new installation work, erasure, I am examining that liminal space between what we understand about ourselves and our culture and the intentional and unintentional processes of erasure that are occurring in today’s highly mediated representations of unmanned aerial vehicles. (uav or drone)
These erasures include discussions about: the mixture of intimacy and distance involved in remote killing; the relationship between today’s uavs and the nuclear bomb; the changing nature of war itself, and the ethical slippage that is occurring today outside of existing laws of war. My intention isn’t to make a case for or against the use of uavs, but to frame the issues in ways that add to the dialogue that surrounds their use.
